What are the advantages of using an ultracapacitor for dashcam?

When I bought a car and drove it on the road, there was a sudden accident and two cars collided. The owners argued with each other and could not tell who was responsible. In order to solve this problem, people began to invent the dashcam.

As a driver, tachograph is very important. It can record the video images and sound of the whole process of driving. In case of traffic accidents, tachograph can retain and provide effective evidence to assist the traffic police to deal with the accident and protect their legitimate rights and interests. It’s a versatile electronic product. Therefore, the normal operation of the dashcam is also very important.

The dashcam needs power to work, and there are two sources of power needed: one is from the car itself, which is powered by the cigarette lighter interface provided by the vehicle standard. The other comes from a backup power source that keeps the device working after the power to the cigarette lighter is turned off. There are two types of energy storage devices used as backup power: batteries and ultracapacitors. Most dashcams use batteries as backup power.

But there’s a downside to using batteries as a backup power source for dashcams: they can’t withstand high temperatures. Battery use temperature range is narrow, in the case of undercooling and overheating, the battery performance decreases, the time decreases sharply, and at high temperature, the battery explosion and fire risk, not only so that the battery in charge and discharge, capacity loss, may take two or three years to replace the battery.

Supercapacitors have high power density, fast charging and discharging speed, stable performance, environmental protection, low loss and long service time. Moreover, the operating temperature range of supercapacitors is -40℃ ~ +70℃, and the operating temperature range of commercial supercapacitors can reach -40℃ ~ +80℃. In summer, when cars are exposed to the sun for a long time, the temperature inside the car reaches 50℃ to 60℃, which is within the operating temperature range of the ultracapacitor. Therefore, the ultracapacitor is more suitable for the backup power supply of the tachograph than the battery.

In order to consider personal safety and reduce the risk of explosion and fire caused by high temperature, it is a priority to choose the ultracapacitor as the backup power supply of the dashcam.
