What is ADAS(Advanced Driver Assistance System)?
2022-10-28 Author:BRVISION

Nowadays, there are lots of vehicles that are already equipped with ADAS in auto industry. ADAS is a kind of advanced technology implemented into vehicles to monitor the surroundings and become aware of potential dangers for safe driving. It can assist the driver during driving and effectively prevent road accidents.

ADAS uses sensors in the vehicle such as radar and cameras to perceive the surroundings, and then provides signals or warnings to the driver or takes automatic action based on what it perceives.

ADAS applications are as follows:

Headway Monitoring Warning(HMW)

Most of drivers do not pay their all attention to the surrounding situations during driving, so that’s why so many traffic accidents happen every year. ADAS will assist the drivers to monitor the forward vehicle dynamics at any time.

Headway Monitoring Warning(HMW) is one of functions in ADAS. While your vehicle is closing to the forward vehicle at a uniform speed (close distance but not urgent), it will issue an alarm ding” to remind the drivers to keep distance. This alarm will send a focus signal to the driver to avoid accidents.

Forward Collision Warning(FCW)

This is the most common vehicle-to-vehicle collision during on the road. Once detect any risk of collision, it will issue an alarm to warn the driver and reserve enough time for braking. Especially when the vehicle in front of you has an emergency braking situation, it will issue an emergency alarm(ding ding ding) to remind the driver. And this alarm sounds more urgent than HMW.

The effective detection distance is 150 meters, and the farthest distance can be detected up to 200 meters. The earliest warning can be 3.1 seconds in advance to warn drivers.

Pedestrian Collision Warning

In addition to vehicle-to-vehicle collision accidents, there are also many human-car accidents. Especially those heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks and vans, the driver in the vehicle has many blind spots, there must have some tools to assist the driver in viewing the surrounding vehicles and pedestrians.

This function can detect the pedestrians or bicycles close to the vehicle and identify the risk of possible collision, and then send ding ding ding” warning to remind the drivers.

Stop&Go Assist

When waiting for a long-time” traffic light, the drivers usually choose to play their smartphone. But its green light, their attention is still on the phone and not get back to driving, the vehicle behind will honk at this time.

With ADAS, it will issue an audible reminder Ready to Go once monitoring forward vehicle goes or its green light. This helps the drivers in bringing their attention back to the driving from their smartphone or others.

ADAS also includes a number of functions such as lane departure warning, virtual bumpers and adaptive cruise control etc. Many managers have already applied ADAS to fleet management, which helps them reduce management costs to a large extent.

BRvision also developed a AI Dashcam with ADAS BR-CRD04 for commercial vehicle. Learn more details:
